Classic Editor: Reusables

Templates with the Reusables menu use the Classic editor. To find these templates, enter "flexible section layout" into the search bar on the Home page.

When you create an item, the first thing you must do is add your Reusable records to the Reusables menu on the left.  Reusable records allow you to insert information from an existing item into another item within that Folder, in just a few clicks. Once you enter event, book, or e-resource information in one item, it will be saved as a Reusable record for future use within the same Folder.

To add Reusable information to your Item and Folder:

  1. In the Reusables menu on the left, you will first be asked to enter a headline and/or other details for the item you are creating.   Note: Not every template will contain a Headline.
  2. Scrolling down the Reusables menu, enter information for all the Reusables in your Item by clicking the Select button under each Reusable in your list.
Note: The Reusables available in your Item will be determined by the template you selected.
  3. If you have used Reusables in other Items in this Folder, they will be listed in the Select Reusable window with the label “In use.”
  4. If you want to use a Reusable that has not been previously used in this folder, search for the information that you want to add using the search box at the top of the window:
    • Book/AV Record Search for an item by keyword, or use the Search drop-down to search by another field.  Record information is retrieved from our Book Index with Reviews database.  If you have trouble finding the book you are looking for, try searching by ISBN (without spaces or dashes, for example search "9780345536884") or try using the Boolean operator "AND" in a keyword search to search by title and author last name (for example, search "The Litigators AND Grisham").  For more help, see What if I have trouble finding the book that I want to add to my Item or newsletter?.
    • Event – If you use Evanced Events for your library’s calendar, you can search for an event by name.  Note:  Your library’s LibraryAware administrator must add the Evanced Feed URL to your Basic Settings  for this to be enabled.
    • E-Resource – If your LibraryAware administrator has added e-resources  to your account, you can search for them by name.
    • Community Partners – If your LibraryAware administrator has added community partners to your account, you can search for them by name.
  5. Click the Use this book (or Use this event or Use this e-resource) button to add the Reusable information to your Item.  The Reusable information will be displayed in the left column of the Editor.  Enter any changes to the Reusable in this form.
  6. Also, from the Select Reusable pop-up window, you can manually enter the information for book or event Reusables.
    • Click the Add a blank button in the Select Reusable window.
    • The left column of the Editor will open a form to enter the details.  Enter the information for the book or event.
  7. When the information for all of your Reusables has been entered, click the Save Reusables and Edit Content button at the bottom of the left column.  You will proceed to the full Editor and your Reusable details will be converted to regular text to be edited and formatted.
