Cheat Sheet: Create a Reading Map

1. Choose a Template

LibraryAware has lots of reading map templates! Make sure to choose a template with the right layout—colors, fonts, and books can all be changed later!

  • Click Create Item under your promotion. You can also click on the Home button at the top to browse recently added templates or use the search bar to find specific templates by typing in keywords like “own voices” or “romance.”
  • Use the Refine Results limiters on the left to narrow down your results by organizations, formats, and audience.


  • Under the formats category, click the checkbox next to Flyer-Books to show the reading map templates. 
  • Once you have found a template you would like to use, click the blue Create button.  

2. Add your Books

Add any book jackets you like, or use NoveList's read-alikes for ideas!
  • Click on an existing book jacket
  • In the image selector window, click the Book Jackets tab
  • Search for a book
  • Click Select Jacket to add a book
  • The new image will be pulled in sized to that of the original image
  • Use the circular handles to enlarge or shrink the image. Or click the Fill button in the toolbar to fill the image box.
  • Click Accept in the toolbar.

3. Change the Text
Change the title, call outs, common subject headings/appeal factors -- any text in the template!

  • Highlight any text to change and enter the new text or change the font with the Font drop-down
  • Click Save when you are done

What else can you do with it?

Print the Reading Map and Display it in Your Shelves

  • Click Save
  • Click the Print button
  • Hover over the Print Preview and click the Print icon to send the reading map to you printer

Post to NoveList Select in your catalog

  • Click Save
  • Click the Publish To button and select Catalog
  • Select when you want to post it
  • Enter a title and description
  • Select relevant audiences and subject headings or genres to make sure the reading map is posted in the most relevant book records!
  • Click Save Publication Event

Post to Facebook

  • Click Save
  • Click the Publish To button and select Facebook
  • Under Post Content, enter a message to go along with the reading map
  • Click Post Now or Schedule for Later

Post to Twitter

  • Click Save
  • Click the Publish To button and select Twitter
  • Under Post Content, enter a message to go along with the reading map
  • Click Post Now or Schedule for Later

Post to Pinterest

  • Click Save
  • Click the Publish To button and select Pinterest
  • Click the Pin It button
  • Sign into Pinterest and save the reading map to your board
